JUAN LÓPEZ VERGARA NEWTON

Juan López Vergara Newton studied architecture at ITESO in Guadalajara, where he was a professor for ten years. He has published texts in specialized journals on architecture, philosophy, and art books. Since 2002, he has been developing projects and buildings in Guadalajara. His work has been distinguished at the 10th Jalisco Architecture Biennial for the project "Rehabilitation of the Urban Image of López Cotilla Street." He also won the 16th Jalisco Architecture Award 2018, receiving two awards: one for the "Rehabilitation of the Urban Image of López Cotilla Street" and another for the "Rehabilitation of the Parque de las Estrellas" project by Luis Barragán—carried out in collaboration with Sergio Ortiz—with whom he also published the book "A Slight Exaggeration" in 2022, as well as the first Spanish translation of "Prayers about the House and Other Prayers" by John Hejduk. In 2023, he published "Seven Images on the Work of the Studio Macias Peredo" in the magazine TC Cuadernos. In 2024, El Croquis published his interview with Macías Peredo entitled "Pátinas y Penumbras." He currently serves on the board of directors of ForA in Guadalajara, the city where he lives, works, and writes.
