SERGIO ORTIZ JIMÉNEZ
An architect, he graduated from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara and holds a Master's degree in Architecture from North Carolina State University (USA). He has taught at the University of North Carolina School of Art (ECU, Greenville, NC) and at Iteso University in Guadalajara, where he taught Architecture and Contemporary Art Theory and Composition Workshop from 1987 to 2011. He is the director of the Sergio Ortiz Workshop, where he has maintained his professional practice as an architect. He has been a guest lecturer and critic on architecture and contemporary art at universities in Mexico and abroad. In December 2013, he won the gold medal at the VIII Jalisco Architecture Biennial, together with architect Antonio Ramírez. In 2018, he completed the restoration project for Parque de Las Estrellas, a project designed by Luis Barragán and Mathias Goeritz, together with Estafania Álvarez and Juan López Vergara Newton. Member of the National Academy of Architecture (Guadalajara Chapter) since 2014. Member of the Luis Bárragán Foundation for Architecture in Guadalajara (1989-2000). Since 2012, he has coordinated the seminar "Architecture and Contemporary Thought" at the CCAU (Center for Architectural and Urban Culture) and at ForA, together with Juan López Vergara. In 2022, he published (together with Juan López N.) the book "A Slight Exaggeration." He lives and works in Guadalajara.
